Make Your Christmas Merry & Bright!

Why not change things up and brighten up your Christmas this year!?!
Especially perfect if you have little ones, but also perfect for the kid at heart.....

Nite Owl Quilting has a trio of Christmas patterns called Nite Before Christmas Collection that are fantastic.  Merry Christmas Wall Art is a super easy project that is a great addition to your mantle.  No quilting, just fusible applique and it's mounted to plywood.....no binding, my kind of project :o)  Finished Size is 40" x 14".

The Quilted Stocking makes are great size for those of you who are addicted to stocking stuffers like me!  We also added pompoms, just for fun~

The hexagon tree skirt is a fat quarter project; quick, easy and it's under the tree!  It has a 46" diameter.

This hexagon pillow is from the book Sew Merry and Bright by Linda Lum DeBono.  The book features 21 fun and easy patterns.  The pillow was my favorite and it turned out so cute!  The quilting in the hexagons really made a difference with the finished look.  Instead of regular batting, I used fusible fleece; no pinning and it didn't move an inch!  What a great product to work with!!

All of the projects feature fabrics from the BRRR and Jingle fabric collections by Robert Kaufman.
Put it all together and you have your Merry& Bright Christmas!

And the winner from the Glamping giveaway was.....PippaP.  Thanks for the comments!!

What are we excited about?

Mini charms, aka Moda Candy, have been super popular, but lots of people just don't know what to do with them.  Leave it to Miss Rosie to swoop in and save the day with eight patterns featuring seventeen tiny projects!  Most of them take two mini charms and just a bit of fabric to complete.  There are thirteen minis to choose from with much more on the way.  I think they're going to be a hit~

Junior Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes......1/2 the size and price of a regular jelly or layer, but still fantastic!  For now it's just Windsor Lane by Bunny Hill Designs, but there are more to come.  With a Junior, you can mix your pink and taupe (or green or blue!) and not end up with a ton of leftover fabric.  The Juniors are mixed in with the regular jelly rolls and layers,
so don't think you're looking at a bunch of Juniors if you click the link :o)

And, I've always thought jelly rolls just look cute in the sewing room, these are downright adorable!
It was like the first time I saw a mini charm......

Grab some minis or juniors and get sewing!  Time to start thinking Christmas, oh my goodness......

Need one last thing to be excited about???  How about a giveaway!?!
The latest buzz seems to be the addition of Mary Jane to the Moda team.  So tell us if you love her and if you're excited about her first collection Glamping, a celebration of Glamorous Camping.
Just drop a comment and you'll be entered for a chance to win a Glamping Charm Pack!

I'll do the drawing next Friday November 9th.  Good luck!

Color My World

I'm back from being sick for way too long with a beautiful solid quilt from RJR!  Color My World is billed as a block of the month, but we're just selling it as a complete kit.  The colors are stunning and the border is very effective in rainbow order.  Something about it makes me think of Grandma, probably just that she would have loved these colors!

Ours was beautifully quilted by Judy Walker, a long arm quilter from London, OH.  The feathers are exquisite and her attention to detail really made such a difference!

The quilt measures 90" x 90" and features RJR's Cotton Supreme Solids.  If you're interested, you can purchase a kit here!

Oh and during my sickness I forgot to post that Melanie from Washington was the winner of the solid charm pack.  The good news is she received her charm and loves it!  More new quilts coming soon!

Solids, Polka Dots & a Giveaway!

Thanks in large part to the Modern Quilt Guild, solids have made an incredible comeback and don't seem to be going away anytime soon.  I love it!  What to do with all these solids?  I found a few free patterns and I think there is a little something for everyone here.

Do you love the jelly rolls?  (Or as Robert Kaufman calls them, roll ups.)  Then this is the one for you!

Skinny Strips is available for download and takes a colorful roll up and a solid white roll up.  Easy enough for such an attractive, trendy quilt!  Check out all of our solid precuts here

Strips aren't your thing?  Maybe you'll like circles!
Kona Dots is available for download.  You could go for traditional colors on this one, but I think it begs for 2 colors + a little pizazz!  How about black and white with an aqua and red circle every now and then?  Cute!
Check out the full range of Kona Cotton Solids here

More traditional?  Then you'll love this Amish style quilt!
Colorful Kona Squares is available for download.  It's a very simple, classic pattern.  Stick with the traditional look or be creative!  Need a baby quilt?  Why not switch out for soft yellow and gray?

This one from Moda takes just 12 Bella Solid fat quarters + background and border. Not bad!
Mind the Gap is available for download.  Once again, be creative~  Go your own way with the colors and make it special for you!

Just for fun, since I love them even more than solids, let's throw in a polka dot quilt!  You might want to sneak a polka dot into one your solid quilts just to be different :o)

Polka Dot Patch by Riley Blake is available for download.  Check out the full range of Dots in 3 sizes, plenty of delicious colors to choose from.  They are, of course, a perfect match with both the Chevron and Stars collections.  Just sayin'!

So, which are you most likely to make?  Drop me a comment and you'll be entered for a chance to win a
Bright Kona Cotton Solid Charm Pack.

One comment per person, please. I'll announce the winner on Friday September 28th. Good Luck!

Crazy Old Ladies Trunk Show!

We borrowed 3 great quilts from the Crazy Old Ladies pattern company.  They will be in the shop for just a little while longer.  I say that with a bit of sadness because I just love the Countdown quilts!  I guess maybe I should make one??

Creepy Countdown is counting down the days until Halloween, what a wonderful addition to your Halloween decor!

Her pattern includes instructions for wallhanging, throw and twin.  I actually just realized that while doing this post.  What kid wouldn't want a countdown quilt?  These fabrics are from last year's Halloween collection from Moda, so you won't be able to make and exact replica, but we have plenty to choose from here!

Her machine applique' is gorgeous, some of the best I've ever seen.  I've never attempted it, but I can absolutely appreciate a job well done~

Counting on Christmas is the same, instructions for 3 sizes.  I like how some of the numbers are spelled out, it really adds interest.
Once again, the exact fabric isn't available, but we have a huge Christmas selection here.

Seriously, this machine applique is perfect.  It makes me afraid to try it because I've been told, and I haven't denied, that I'm a perfectionist and I don't feel like I could achieve this kind of perfection ;o)

It would be fun to do your own variation and do a birthday countdown. Obviously it might not work out for birthdays early in the month :o) You might have a giant 1 on the quilt. Ha, ha, I would love that!! In fact, we have some cute birthday fabric by Timeless Treasures, mix in some cute blenders and you're well on your way.

Last but certainly not least is Season's Greetings.  The finished size is 52" x 64".   I know this is repetitive, but you can choose your own Christmas fabric here.

The lettering is so cute! I love ornaments for o's~  We have really enjoyed this trunk show, hope you do, too!

Good Stuff!!!

I've been on a bit of a blog vacation since I got back from my actual vacation :o)
I think I'm all caught up now, whew!
Today I'm just going to show you some good stuff!

I love black and white fabric, but I also love, love color.  So...I picked out these cute dalmations, a few cute fabrics to go with it and permanent fabric markers (which you can find at any local craft store, just make sure they're permanant).  My daughter picked out a white background, but the colors do bleed a bit, so the black background is really perfect.  I colored a few of the dogs and I felt like such an artist!  It's corny, yes, but if you knew how little artistic ability I have, you would understand my joy :o)

I left some plain and threw in a two-tone puppy.  My husband said, "So what are you up to now?"  I told him I was going to color all of this fabric and make pillowcases, but I followed up with,  "Let's be honest, I'm going to color all of this fabric and start on something else."  Just keeping it real :o)  Maybe I'll finish it and I'll post a pic......

I am kind of stuck on chevrons, but I don't think I'm alone, so I guess it's okay.  Riley Blake just came out with 62 (yes, 62!) new chevrons to choose from.  There are 3 different sizes, all equally fantastic.  Here it is on the shelf with Free Spirit's Houndstooth looking yummy!

Are you in love, too?  Download your free pattern to make this super cute quilt, Chevron Lollies.

It's time for back to school, so some of you Mom's might be looking at a little extra sewing time, yea!
One more thing that is really good?
Seeing the little, little kids get on the bus on my way to work.  They are so sweet!

Make it cute, make it colorful and have a great day!

Riley Blake Trunk Show

We're borrowing some super cute quilts from Riley Blake for a few weeks!  They have such a clean, crisp look to them.  I love that about Riley Blake fabrics~  If you can stop in the store and take a look you should, but for those of you who can't, I snapped a few pics and the patterns are free downloads.  Who could ask for anything more?

Puppy Park was designed by Bella Blvd and has tons of great prints and coordinates.  I think the dot is really the standout!  The Bow Wow quilt measures 58" x 58" and
you can download the pattern here.

Alpine Wonderland was designed by Sheri McCulley and has a wonderful vintage Christmas feel.  The collection also has an advent calendar that would compliment the quilt nicely.
The Wonderland quilt measures 62" x 69" and can be downloaded here.

Who else loves Halloween quilts?  I absolutely love having something different to hang for each season that I didn't buy in a store.  This is definitely a cool Halloween quilt!  Costume Clubhouse was designed by Sheri Berry and features kids in not so scary costumes and fun coordinates.  There is a panel that shows you how to easily make a fantastic Happy Halloween banner.  The Spooky Alley quilt measures 65" x 72" and the pattern can be downloaded here.

I'm kind of stuck on cutesy right now and have vowed to work on something more traditional soon.  I just told my mom today that someone else better help be in charge of quilts and trunk shows or my cute look is going to take over.  We have plenty of traditional fabric, too!  I guess we'll see what I can come up with :o)  You tell me, do we have more traditional fans?
Let me know what your style is and have a great weekend!

Apple of my Eye

This lovely fabric by The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake has been out for a while, I'm just a little late on this post.
However, I have decided it could never be too late for something this cute!
The Apple Of My Eye Collection was one of my favorites from the beginning and we saw this quilt made up at market.  They used the red for the border, but we switched out to the pink.  This quilt just might be my all time fave~

The finished size is 54" x 59", perfect wall hanging size.  And the ruffled apples?  Oh my goodness!

Ruffles,

Ruffles,

and more Ruffles!  They remind me of the little ruffled bottoms you put on a little girl under a dress.
Maybe that's why I love it so much.  Two of the girls that used to work here were in a couple of weeks ago and
they thought it would be a great gift for a teacher.  We agree!  If you start now, you'll definitely have that ready for a very special teacher by the end of the school year :o)

Mini Charm Giveaway!

Are you a traditional Christmas person or a cutesy Christmas person?  I'm absolutely cutesy~  Take a look at the two different mini charms below and leave a comment telling me which you like!

Joy by Kate Spain - too cute!

Christmas Spirit by Holly Taylor - woodsy and delightful!

I'll be on vacation next week and swore that I wouldn't take my laptop, soooo....while I'm away, leave those comments!  I'll draw the winners on July 30th using random.org.  One of you will win 2 of the Joy minis and the other will win 2 of the Christmas Spirit minis.  Good luck and enjoy your weekend!
Oh, and P.S., Christmas is closer than you think, better embrace it and get started on those projects!

Poinsettia - Pretty Quilt, Free Pattern!

We're borrowing a fabulous quilt from Clothworks right now called Poinsettia.  It features fabric from the Poinesttia Collection by Sup Zipkin for Clothworks.  The colors are rich, prints are clear and the pattern is great!  The flower petals are 3D and the centers are yo-yos.  If you're looking for something a little different to spice up your holiday decor without getting too crazy, you might want to check this one out!

It measures 63" x 63", a nice size for a wall hanging.  The pattern is available here, so you can get started now!

A few shelves of our Christmas fabric, a small sampling really :o)
(And you can see where the Poinsettia Quilt found it's home)
I love it all lined up and pretty, it makes me want to make something!

Night Shade!

Looking for something a little different this Halloween?  Night Shade by Tula Pink is going to be just the thing!  Purple, Green, and Teal....Halloween colors?  Umm...yes!!  These girls are elegant,  eeire and fantastic all at the same time!

Go out and grab some black frames, (doesn't have to be anything fancy, I found these at Target) and frame your girls.  It only takes a second and your Halloween party will have something that no one else's has :o)  You could even add a little glitter to make them really sparkle!

Can't you see them lined up on the mantel?

Take that Martha Stewart!  I love her elegant Halloween ideas and this falls right in with that~  In fact, I hope Martha discovers Tula, I'd love to see what she would come up with.

Tula is always going to give us something unique and fun, she's got that crazy, funky style that I love~  The full collection of Night Shade is available here.  I don't think these girls are going to be around long, so don't delay~

Do a rain dance for us here in Ohio, we desperately need it and have a sewing weekend!

Blue Underground Studios Trunk Show and Pattern Giveaway!

You don't even have to leave your house to enjoy this little trunk show from Blue Underground Studios, but you might want to see them in person, the quilts are fantastic!  We have had several of their quilts in our shop over the years, but hadn't had any for a while.  We met Janine at Quilt Market and my memory was refreshed.  We love these girls!  Modern, easy quilts that are super versatile!

The Plaza is perfect in gray and tan batiks, a very masculine look. It's kind of hard to come up with a good man quilt, so if you've been looking, look no more!

The Plaza is 75" x 88" and takes fourteen 1/2 yard prints or for more variety, 30 fat quarters.

Green Glass Door is my personal favorite and I've never been a huge fan of green.  The solid frames around the glass doors are very effective.  This is a great favorite color quilt and a good one to use up your stash.

Green Glass Door is 78" x 87", takes 20 fat quarters for the doors and a total of 3-1/4 yards of various solid greens for the frames.

Juxtaposition is another batik quilt that uses bold colors to bring it to life!  The straight line quilting is fantastic and I think this would also be a great two tone or solid quilt.

Juxtaposition is 60" x 65" and takes just 18 fat quarters! Another great stash quilt~

Check them out all stacked up looking gorgeous~

You can order the patterns here or be the lucky winner of your favorite pattern!  Just comment on which of these patterns you love the most and you'll be entered for a chance to win.  I'll do the drawing on Monday July 16th using random.org.
Sooooo.......which one is your fave?
