Blue Underground Studios Trunk Show and Pattern Giveaway!

You don't even have to leave your house to enjoy this little trunk show from Blue Underground Studios, but you might want to see them in person, the quilts are fantastic!  We have had several of their quilts in our shop over the years, but hadn't had any for a while.  We met Janine at Quilt Market and my memory was refreshed.  We love these girls!  Modern, easy quilts that are super versatile!

The Plaza is perfect in gray and tan batiks, a very masculine look. It's kind of hard to come up with a good man quilt, so if you've been looking, look no more!

The Plaza is 75" x 88" and takes fourteen 1/2 yard prints or for more variety, 30 fat quarters.

Green Glass Door is my personal favorite and I've never been a huge fan of green.  The solid frames around the glass doors are very effective.  This is a great favorite color quilt and a good one to use up your stash.

Green Glass Door is 78" x 87", takes 20 fat quarters for the doors and a total of 3-1/4 yards of various solid greens for the frames.

Juxtaposition is another batik quilt that uses bold colors to bring it to life!  The straight line quilting is fantastic and I think this would also be a great two tone or solid quilt.

Bare Necessities Bags



So I was totally inspired by Dear Stella's awesome new fabric and found the perfect pattern!  The Bare Necessities Bag.  Mother/Daughter was perfect since the bag comes in two sizes. 

On the left is the mother, she's 9" x 9" x 3".   On the right is the daughter, she's 8" x 8" x 1-1/2".  I made them with the cross body strap, but you can shorten it up for a shoulder strap.  The instructions were simple and after you get the first one out of the way, you can really crank these out!  They are a great size and don't require much fabric, so you could make one to match any outfit in your closet and just hang it with it.  (That way you wouldn't lose it like I would :o)

Made with Dear Stella's new collection Town & Country.  London themed prints are hot with the olympics coming up  and you really need to have the double decker buses anyway,

 they are just too great~

TIP:  The pattern gives you the option of quilting, absolutely do it, it adds so much to the look of your bag.  An easy way to do this is to lay your ruler on the bag and measure over 1 inch from your center strip, making sure to keep it straight.  Tear off a strip of masking tape and line in up right next to the ruler.  Then just sew right along next to the tape.  You didn't have to mark anything, your lines are perfect and you can reuse the tape each time.  1" was perfect for the little bag, 1-1/4" for the larger bag.  Quilting scares me and this was a breeze, so no worries, you can do it!

Take the time to match your thread every step of the way where needed, you won't regret it.

I promised our first tutorial last week, but the weather just didn't allow it~  We were without power Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday.  I'll be busy working on it this week and much more!  Thanks for hanging in there!

Meet Freddie's Friends!

  Come and meet Freddie's Friends!  We fell in love with these adorable creatures at Quilt Market and the designer of the patterns was nice enough to make these samples for us.  Her name is Ingrid and she was a sweet as can be.  So, we left market really excited about the arrival of our new friends and they came yesterday!  They are already hanging in the store, a super cute addition to our children's section.  Drop in a take a look, you'll definitely be inspired!

All of them are sewn with raw edges which makes it easy and adds to the overall cuteness~  She matches the thread for the pupils and whites of the eyes, but that's pretty much it.  She suggests and neutral color so that you're not wasting time changing thread. 

Olive is simply charming (and has already been claimed by my daughter :o)!  She measures 11" x 5" x 16" and most of the fabric came from the Bella Butterfly Collection by Michael Miller.

Gabby wants to make an appearance at your Thanksgiving dinner this year!  She measures 18" x 4" x 19" and most of the fabric came from the Daydream Collection by Riley Blake.

Scotty can't wait to go to the beach with your little guy!  He measures 18" x 4" x 13" and most of the fabric came from the the Mod Tod Collection by Riley Blake.

Bonnie is ready to flutter into your little girl's life!  She measures 18" x 4" x 15" and most of the fabrics came from the

Apple of my Eye Collection by Riley Blake.

Make one for a loved one or make it for yourself!  I think it would be a charming addition to the stack of pillows on your bed and I don't care how old you are, cute is cute~

Moda is makin' me crazy this year!  I fell in love with Blitzen as soon as it came in the door.  How could you not love this mixture of elegant paisleys, textures and adorable snowmen?  I love the addition of grey to Christmas fabric, really gives it a modern look!  Thanks BasicGrey for spicing up my Christmas stash~

Kate Spain is always on the list of must have for Christmas! These fun prints are sure to add Joy to your decorating and gift giving this year. Joy is a little more cutesy and perfect for those of us who might have grown up, but still love the fun stuff! I told my children last year that they will always have adorable wrapping paper no matter how old they get, they'll just have to accept that :o)
